Background
On 10–11 April 2025, LuminaLeap Technologies partnered with Takealot, Kaelo Group, and Urban Mobility to deliver an engaging and interactive workshop titled “The Making of a Digital Entrepreneur.” The initiative was specifically designed for 120 young participants from Alexandra, Gauteng, aiming to empower youth with the skills necessary to build profitable online brands and thrive in the digital economy.
Objective
The primary objective of this two-day workshop was to equip young entrepreneurs with practical knowledge and actionable strategies for establishing and scaling their businesses online. Participants were expected to develop a robust entrepreneurial mindset, understand digital tools and platforms, and master effective online brand-building techniques.
Approach
The workshop was structured into comprehensive sessions that blended mindset development with practical application:
- Session 1 – The Mindset of a Digital Entrepreneur: Participants explored what it means to be a digital entrepreneur, shifting their perspectives from a hustle mindset to scalable business thinking. The session also addressed overcoming limiting beliefs and barriers commonly faced by township youth.
- Session 2 – Digital Tools and Platforms: Attendees were introduced to accessible, cost-effective digital platforms including Canva, FreePik, Pixabay, Pexels, CapCut, TikTok, Google Suite, Facebook Business, and Facebook Business Suite. Practical sessions included setting up business profiles and using smartphones effectively as primary business tools.
- Session 3 – Practical Application: Participants engaged in hands-on exercises such as creating professional business posters using Canva, developing creative advertisement content, and learning effective posting strategies for social media platforms.
- Session 4 – Case Studies and Insights: Participants drew inspiration from real-life success stories including Theo Baloyi from Bathu and Godiragetse Mogajane from Delivery Ka Speed. These cases provided practical insights into leveraging platforms such as WhatsApp Business, Facebook, Instagram, and Shopify to launch and scale businesses successfully.
Results
The workshop successfully empowered participants with essential digital skills, significantly enhancing their understanding of entrepreneurship in the digital age. The immediate outcome was an improved capacity among attendees to create engaging digital content, effectively use online marketing tools, and leverage social media platforms for business growth.
Client Feedback
Feedback from the youth participants and stakeholders was overwhelmingly positive. Participants particularly valued the practical, hands-on nature of the workshop, which provided them with immediately applicable skills and strategies.
